ArtVoice Earth - Green Planet: Artists versus Meta

In a time when crises and upheavals shape our planet, the global artists’ community ArtVoice Earth - Green Planetraises its voice for the issues that concern us all: the protection of nature and animals, the commitment to peace, democracy, human rights, social justice, and a responsible digital transformation.

Art has always been a mirror of society - and this movement demonstrates impressively how powerful and inspiring it can be in the 21st century. Connected across the globe, artists contribute their creativity, reach, and passion to raise awareness and initiate change.

Currently, the community is particularly engaged against a new and highly problematic practice introduced by the tech giant Meta (Facebook/Instagram): the forced verification of accounts through video selfies. With an international petition, ArtVoice Earth -  Green Planet calls for an immediate stop to this violation of fundamental data protection rights.

The criticism is clear: video selfies capture highly sensitive biometric data - movements, facial expressions, and individual traits. Users are confronted with an ultimatum: either hand over their personal data or lose access to their accounts. This contradicts the principles of voluntariness and data minimization, which are clearly enshrined in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

With every signature, the community grows -  and shows that art not only inspires but also protects: our planet, our democracy, and the dignity of every single human being.
